Brown spots showing up in your yard are easy to chalk up to drought stress or pet damage. But a lot of the time, the real culprit is fungal disease - and it moves fast if you're not paying attention.

Here's the thing about lawn fungus: it doesn't announce itself. It starts small. A little yellowing here, a few discolored blades there. By the time you notice a full brown patch, the disease has usually been at work for a while. That's why we don't just look at the lawn from a distance - we get down to the grass blade level.

What we're looking for are the early warning signs that most people walk right past. Spotting on individual blades, discoloration along the edges, irregular lesions - these are all indicators that something fungal is happening under the surface. We also pay close attention to how the grass is being cut. A dull mower blade tears grass instead of cutting it cleanly, and those ragged tips become entry points for disease. It's one of those details that makes a real difference in long-term lawn health.

Catching it early is everything. A targeted fungicide application at the right time can stop the spread and protect the healthy turf around it. Left unchecked, fungal disease can thin out large areas of a lawn that would otherwise be thick and green. Our lawn applications are designed specifically to address issues like this - treating what's there and building up the lawn's resistance going forward.

If your yard has patches that aren't responding to water or fertilizer, don't keep guessing. There's a good chance something else is going on, and we can help figure out exactly what it is.
